What is Visibility?
sss

Visibility Magazine was born when Deb sent me a random message one day. She was asking if I’d like to help her make a small TTRPG book, to commemorate Transgender Day of Visibility on the 31st of March. I was excited, but given that she messaged on the 19th of November, we didn’t have much time to get things in motion, so we set to work!
Hey, Why Don’t We…
Between the two of us, we messaged every trans creator from TTRPG industry we knew (not a massive number) and then ten-times as many folk we didn’t know. The responses were mind-blowing. So many talented and amazing people were happy to take part; in barely a fortnight, what was going to be a small pamphlet written by Deb and I exploded into a 10… 20… 30 strong team!
Visibility’s ‘mission aims’ were simple: to create quality TTRPG and give it away as a digital format so that ANYONE could get their cursors on it and the world could see what our talented community had to offer without a paywall, and also to sell the printed version of Visibility (with the PDF as pay what you feel) to raise money for a selection of trans charities. The group democratically chose Mermaids, Rainbow Railroad, Black Trans Foundation, Translifeline, and the Transgender Legal Defence and Education Fund to be the charities we would send any profits to.
With the help of Transmuted, we worked tirelessly for three and a half months to craft the first issue of Visibility! It was difficult and tense, but 25 creators came together to produce beautiful works of art for their shared community, resulting in an 80 page masterpiece. Visibility issue one carried 5 full pick-up and play TTRPGs, 3 gripping short stories, 6 heartfelt poems, an essay on the importance of roleplaying games to trans people, and more art than you can shake an E-pump at, all capped by a custom comic by the Prettiest Platypus!!!

Wait, You Didn’t Stop There?..
Now, issue one broke even and managed to raise a small amount of money, but we weren’t happy to call it a job well done. All of that queer ADHD bubbled to the surface and we thought, ‘why not carry on?’ Visibility brought together 30 talented people from across the planet in an explosion of arts, so it seemed a shame to let all those folk slip away. We went into a hiatus to rest and gather our thoughts. In that time, the group grew to 40 artists strong and the director-team expanded with them, adding Misha and Lyn to the list of people who have to do loads and loads of legwork.
We set our sights on turning Visibility into a biannual publication, a yearly issue released on Day of Visibility, and another one to celebrate Transgender Day of Remembrance on the 20th of November. And that’s where we are now. The team are scrambled to get work together for a November release, then we will turn our attentions to next year’s March issue!
